Last Sunday I walked into singing time with only two of my kids sitting reverently in their chairs. This never happens. I usually have 6 or 7 kids to remind that we are in the Lord's home and he doesn't quite appreciate his children coloring all over the chairs. Not only are my kids hilarious and so very witty, but the other kids are as well. The best part is they just feed off each other...
For example: If I show them a picture of a camel, it then begins... "I went to the zoo and saw a camel!" "Well I saw the elephants when I went!" "The monkeys were my favorite part!" and so on and so forth. These are my reasons of why I absolutely love my calling.
Back to me walking into singing time, I sat down next to my two girls and heard a sneeze. I turned around to see who it was that was sneezing only to find a little boy slurping up his (excuse my choice of word here) snot through his mouth. It was one of those moments where you just had to stare at the situation because if you looked away you could be missing out on telling a great story. He then wiped his face off with his sleeve and licked the remnants of his boogers off of his fingers. I guess it was finger lickin' good, as they might say in Texas. As for my thoughts, I am just glad we have a little something called, immune system. That is all on that subject.
This Sunday, Haylee taught a great lesson about service. She asked everyone to stand up if we wanted to be a follower of Jesus Christ. In unison, we all stood up. She then went around the room asking everyone how we could give service to others, or how we have in the past. It gets to our sweet little Kelsey, with her raspy voice...
Haylee: "Okay Kelsey, how have you served others?"
Kelsey: "Well, I don't really have a service. My grandma died."
.... and silence.
As all our hearts were breaking, you can't help but giggle about how sweet and innocent these kids are. They want you to know so much of their life, every detail if you let them. I catch myself just sitting back silent to listen to wherever their running minds take them. I love my little Kelsey, and if you could do me a favor and just keep her, and her sweet family in your prayers as they deal with their loss. For now, us adults know her grandma is in a better place but she needs peace of mind because she is only 5 and doesn't quite understand the loss in her family.
Throughout this lesson we wrote 'thank you' cards to some of our leaders in our church. The kids had the option to write these letters to whoever they wanted. Guess who Kelsey picked?? Me. Out of all the amazing leaders in my ward, I got a thank you card from this sweet little girl. I often think if I even make a difference in peoples lives, with my calling, and just being out in the world. The thing with kids is that they are so pure and they see that in anyone and anything. They aren't aware that adults make mistakes too. That is a beautiful innocence they have. They constantly have eyes on you and look up to your example every day. I can't be more happier that I could be that for my primary kids. I love them. I really do. I pray that I never get released, every night actually. They are such a bright light in my life.
Not only are they thoughtful, but they definitely keep me in line. I don't think I shared this story from my last primary post. It has to be shared even though it is going down in the books for one of 'Kim's most embarrassing moments.' So here it goes... One Sunday I was wearing a cream colored lace shirt. The front part of my shirt came down a little lower than my other shirts. Well, this particular Sunday, Emily wanted to sit on my lap, she was facing me and decided to take a look down my shirt.
Emily: "What is that?"
Me, trying not to laugh: "Its nothing... don't look down there." Pulls up shirt.
Emily: "I think that might be immodest..."
Needless to say I have never worn that shirt to church again. :)
Sundays are my favorite day of the week. Church and sisterly bonding... thus meaning, we baked cookies and watched my favorite movie in the entire world. Julie & Julia. It doesn't get any better than 'thank you' cards, baking, and a movie that has inspired me to blog.
lovelovelove.
