I can't quite remember how this story began, or what topic we were on but it goes a little something like this...
My Aunt has two kids. A boy named Austin who is incredibly smart and the most sensitive, caring boy you will ever meet. Avery, a witty girl who is a spitfire and doesn't mind if she gets in trouble at all. You would think the boy would be more of the tough one... but Avery definitely takes the cake on that one.
One morning while running errands, Austin, asked his mom what he could do to help all the wildfires that were breaking out around Utah. Homes and priceless possessions were being lost and he felt for those losing those important things. His mom told him he couldn't really do anything, but all we really needed was a good rainstorm with no lightening. He stopped dead in his tracks and begged his mom to pray for rain. His mom said, well we are at the grocery store so we can pray for rain when we get home. Austin insisted that he needed to pray now or else it just wouldn't work. His mom listened, found a tree in the grocery story parking lot, knelt down & prayed. Prayed for a huge rainstorm to help these people suffering from these fires.
Austin is 9. He doesn't follow a religion, & neither does his mom.
The next morning, Utah had a huge rainstorm. It cleared the air and reminded him of how blue the sky could really be. Rushing upstairs, excitement in his feet... he ran up to his mom and said, "I told you God is real!"
I believe to the fullest that God truly heard my cousins prayer and answered it so that his faith could grow on his own. Whether you have a religion, or not, I hope that you felt some sort of warmth in your heart that God does listen to us. Even if we are only 9 years old. Austin had enough faith to ask and believed he would be heard. Not every prayer is answered, not every prayer is even answered right away, and sometimes its not answered in the way you want it to be answered but how you NEED it to be answered.
I believe in prayer. && I believe in God.
