January 2011: My first month of teaching. We got into singing time, things are going smoothly, everyone is singing so Heavenly Father can hear them... and so on. I had 4 boys up against 1 girl. (poor little maddie) One particular boy was the biggest flirting 4 year old I have ever met in my life, and such a ham. His name, Alec. With tear filled eyes and a frown beginning to form on his face he asked me if he could go be with his mom. My thoughts: Oh, poor thing just misses his mom. I will tell him he can sit on my lap and he can see his mom right after singing time. But no, he insisted on being with his mom. Asked multiple times and kept repeating that he needed to talk to her. I asked him why and if he was sad I could help him. His cheeks became rosey and with a very flustered look he responded.. "I pooped in my pants, okay?" While this is so terribly sad and I feel like the worst teacher ever... I had to choke back my laughter because of how he answered me, and how he smiled at me afterwards... almost like he was relieved that he could confide in me. Finally. I learned that if a child ever needs to go talk to their parents... just let them. They might be pooping while they are asking you.
March 2011: The lesson was about not saying bad words. Kid's are always honest moment #1: Jessica, "My sister swears all of the time!! Like really bad words."
June 2011: One of my lessons I taught was about speaking kind words to each other. I made each child wear a crown and sit in the middle of the classroom where everyone could see them. That child would then make a kind comment to each individual in the classroom. It was Todd's turn to say kind words about everyone and it comes around to Maddie, his face flushed into the darkest shade of red you could imagine: "Maddie, I think you're pretty." To make your heart melt even more, the rest of the boys agreed and vocalized it on their own.
March 2012: Stac is quite the dancer, so good that she broke her tailbone at one tough practice, causing her to carry around a lady bug pillow pet every where her broken bum went. One Sunday she was helping me with class and all the girls were so interested in her cute pillow that they couldn't even focus on the lesson. We took a break to get a drink from the drinking fountain (because that's like the coolest thing ever) and our sweet Emily had disappeared. I hurry back to our room only to find Emily with a death grip on my sisters bum cushion. Priceless and quite hilarious. I wish I could have taken a picture. Later on we explained to the kids what happened to Stac and one seemed very worried. Kelsey, so sweet and more caring than any 4 year old I have ever met gave our closing prayer for that day and it went a little something like this: "Dear Heavenly Father, we are thankful for this day, we are thankful for all the churches, and our families too. Bless Sister King's sisters' bum to feel better, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen." If that isn't the sweetest prayer you have ever heard... I don't know what is.
April 2012: Emily is a very curious one. Pulling on my shirt one day in singing time, looking straight down into you know what and was not afraid to tell me that I was immodest. Can't wait til I have G's.
September 2012: This past Sunday our lesson was on Always being honest. I talked quite a bit on how sometimes telling the truth isn't always the easiest thing but in the end it makes us happier than a lie ever could. At the end of the lesson I had a bag of treats and if they sat good and quiet the whole time they could have two treats. I had reese's, hershey bars, whoppers, and kit kats that they could pick from. I set it down on the ground so they could pick and I began to gather our mess of our colored pictures and crayons... turn around only to find out our little attention getter, Taylor, had snuck 3 candy's. I looked at her and said: Taylor, how many candy's did you choose? Taylor: two. Me: Okay, you do remember what our lesson was on today right? Taylor: I just maybe accidentally picked 3. The girl will be the death of me, but I love her.
Thats all for Precious Primary Moments today. Thanks for reading :)
xoxo.
